How to Setup Asus DSL-N55U for Streamyx Broadband
If you have bought the above modem ( similar to mine ), then I teach you how to set it up to use with your Streamyx Broadband ( Malaysian Broadband ). First why buy this modem ? ( Look at the picture below ) ;
Need I explain more ? The picture is self-explanatory right ? Now first plug-in the telephone jack, ethernet cable and then the power cable. Turn it on and wait about 2 mins. Don't bother using the supplied CD, it doesn't work !
Type in your browser address : http://192.168.1.1 and a screen will pop-out like this ;
The default username is 'admin' and password 'admin' too.
After logging in you will see the settings menu. Go straight to Advanced Settings-Wan-Internet Connection, you will see the screen below ;
Follow the settings exactly as shown in the screenshot.
And more ;
Please note that I use google dns instead of streamyx's. If I use streamyx's dns a lot sites cannot be accessed (blocked) mainly p2p sites and etc. To insert google dns use : 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4
If you want to use streamyx dns just tick on Connect to Dns server automatically and choose 'Yes'.
After you've finished click on the Save button.
Ok, your streamyx connection should be up and running now ! (after 2 minutes)
But not nearly finished yet...If you have copper line just like mine then you should continue with this step ;
Go back to the first interface after log-in and click Administration-Dsl Setting ;
This is a special adjustment screen for bad line, and this is the setting I've come with after much experimenting. Copper lines tends to disconnect and drag from time to time especially after a rain !
I myself have been having drops from 8mbps to 3.5mbps on a bad line day !
So, these settings helps to keep the internet from disconnecting ( not 100% though )..thanks to stimx.
But it's the best I've got after 1 month of tweaking and experimenting.
Well, do I need to go through the wifi settings ? Oh what the hell..
The above shows wifi settings for 2.4Ghz ..after you're finished click the Save button.
And the 5Ghz wifi setting..after you're done, press the save button.
You may view the System log-Dsl log to see how well your line is doing and compare it with this chart ;
Ok I hope it helps, I have been a pc technician since 1999 and has done various pc repairs and networking so I hope to share my knowledge with those who needs it. Anyone more pc-tech savvy than me, do feel free to voice your opinion.
